A court in Poland has arrested Irina Rogova, the wife of former Open Russia coordinator Igor Rogov, for a period of up to three months. As the publication Vot Tak found, Rogova is being charged with espionage and accessory to espionage. She was arrested in Katowice, and the preventive measure was assigned on Nov. 13. According to Polish authorities, Rogova may be involved in activities related to Russian intelligence services, but details have not yet been disclosed.
The espionage charges were brought against her in continuation of the investigation against her husband. Igor Rogov was detained in July 2024 and charged with creating a threat to life through a possible explosion. However, he was not charged with espionage. In October, Rogov's period of arrest was extended until January 2025.
His case aroused the interest of Polish security services, as it involved a parcel that came in Rogov's name from Ukraine. According to Irina, Igor did not know about the contents of the parcel but helped to pay for its delivery and also prepared the paperwork for its further shipment. Sources say Rogov may have received this package from Ukrainian volunteers in the Czech Republic, and that it may have contained an explosive substance.
In late October, Poland's Internal Security Agency reported having arrested a group of individuals suspected of sending explosives to EU countries and the UK. It is unclear whether their case is related to the investigation into Rogov and his wife.
Rogov's friend Danila Buzanov told journalists that he had been questioned as a witness in Rogov’s case. The law enforcement agents were interested in Rogov's possible connection with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). The prosecutor's office has not yet disclosed details of the case, citing the interests of the investigation.
