Alexei Navalny located in remote Polar Wolf penal colony in Russia's Far North

The Insider

The whereabouts of Alexei Navalny, with whom there has been no contact for the past few weeks, have finally been determined. He is in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, in the Polar Wolf colony. This information was provided by Ivan Zhdanov, the director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

“Alexei Navalny has been found. He is in IK-3 Polar Wolf colony in Kharp, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District – one of the country's northernmost and isolated colonies. The conditions there are harsh, with a special regime in the permafrost zone. It is very difficult to reach, and there is no FSIN Letter or Zonatelecom letter delivery system.
A lawyer was there today. He saw Alexei. Although the lawyer was not allowed in straight away. It seems that the colony had been prepared for Alexei's arrival in advance. The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) Arkadiy Gostev was there in April, perhaps that's when the decision to transfer Alexei was made.”

On December 11, Navalny's lawyer was informed in IK-6 Melekhovo that Navalny was no longer listed there as a prisoner. The colony administration refused to disclose where he was transferred. According to Kira Yarmysh, Navalny felt unwell in early December, he felt dizzy, and he was put on an IV drip. After that, all communication with Navalny was cut, and he ceased to make appearances in court sessions through a video link.
