The Mariupol City Council reported the death of the 14-year-old weightlifter Alina Peregudova and her mother from Russian shells. The report does not specify when it happened.
In 2021, Peregudova won the gold medal of the U17 Ukraine championship in 40 kg weight category and was a candidate for the national team.

On April 28, Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boychenko said some 100,000 city residents were in mortal danger due to unsanitary and unbearable living conditions. According to him, the temperature in the city already reached 20 degrees Celsius. At the same time, thousands of corpses are decomposing in basements and under rubble, and locals are suffering from a shortage of food and drinking water. All this may lead to outbreaks of powerful and deadly epidemics - cholera, dysentery and E. coli.
«The occupiers are unable to provide the remaining population with food, water and medicine. Or they are simply not interested in doing so. They are blocking all evacuation attempts. And without that, people will die. After all, living conditions in destroyed Mariupol are now medieval. We need immediate and complete evacuation,» Boychenko said.
Boychenko said more than 10,000 civilians were killed during the siege of the city. According to him, that number could exceed 20,000, as the streets «are strewn with dead bodies.» Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke of tens of thousands of dead. He said the Russian army wants to «make an example of destroyed Mariupol».
