Radio Liberty journalist Vera Girich killed in missile attack on Kyiv

Radio Liberty journalist Vera Girich was killed in a missile attack on Kyiv, her colleague Alexander Demchenko said. A Russian missile hit her house.

«This is the small car of Vera Girich, my colleague from Radio Liberty. She used it a couple of years ago to take us to Nemeshayevo, telling us how to look for information in the occupied territories. Now Vera is gone. A precise Russian missile hit her house, Vera lay there all night, and they found her only in the morning,» he wrote.

In mid-April, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine reported at least 20 journalists were killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.

The Union published a list of the names of the journalists killed, specifying that it included only those whose deaths were confirmed by the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine:

One of the victims is Oksana Baulina, a journalist who worked for The Insider. She died under fire in Kyiv while carrying out an editorial assignment. Oksana was filming the destruction after Russian troops shelled the Podil district of the capital and was hit by rocket fire. Another civilian was killed in the attack (his name is not disclosed), two people accompanying her were wounded and hospitalized.

The death of Ukrainian photographer and documentarian Maksim Levin became known on April 1, when police found his body near Kyiv. Contact with him was lost on March 13. According to Levyi Bereg, Levin, along with a military officer and former photographer Alexei Chernyshov, had traveled to Guta Mezhigorskaya to record the consequences of the Russian aggression. Contact with both men was then lost. Later it was reported that intense hostilities had broken out in the area where he was supposed to work, during which he could have been injured or taken prisoner. Alexei Chernyshov's whereabouts are still unknown.
