269 civilians were killed in Irpen near Kiev, says Sergei Panteleev, a spokesman for Ukraine's main investigation department. Police have completed investigations and identified seven shooting sites in the city. According to Panteleev, 30 percent of the city was effectively destroyed.
According to him, more than a thousand bodies have already been found in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions and in certain parts of the Mykolaiv region that were liberated from the Russian occupation. The investigation also revealed that Russia had shelled residential areas in Irpen from Bucha.
Fighting in Irpen had been going on since the beginning of the war. The city was left without electricity, gas and communications. Local residents could only evacuate via a half-destroyed bridge, which had been damaged by shelling, as had been the railroad tracks. After the city was liberated from the Russian occupation on March 28, Oleksiy Arestovich, advisor to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said the world should be horrified by what had happened in Bucha, Irpen and Gostomel.
«Bucha, Irpen and Gostomel are the cities that have been liberated and that resemble a shot from a post-apocalyptic horror movie. Among the victims of the war crimes committed by Russian troops are raped women whom the invaders had tried to burn, murdered local government officials, murdered children, murdered elderly people, murdered men,» he noted. There are signs that many of those who were killed had been tortured.
