The Russian army has struck several regions of Ukraine. Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to the presidential office, reported a large-scale air alert. He asserted that Russia planned to fire a total of over 100 missiles on the morning of December 29.
At this point, however, the Ukrainian authorities estimate that more than 120 missiles have been fired at Ukraine in today's massive strike. In particular, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak wrote about this.
“120+ missiles over Ukraine were launched by the ‘evil Russian world’ to destroy critical infrastructure and kill civilians en masse. We’re waiting for further proposals from ‘peacekeepers’ about ‘peaceful settlement’, ‘security guarantees for the Russian Federation and undesirability of provocations,” Podolyak said on Twitter.
Kyiv and the Kyiv Region have also reported explosions. Ukrainska Pravda writes that one or two explosions were heard in multiple districts of the capital. The Kyiv city military administration explained them by the functioning of the air defense system. In the Darnytskyi District of Kyiv, debris from the rocket damaged a private building and a car. Strana reports a fire breaking out in the city.
Explosions have also been heard in the Odesa, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions. According to local authorities, this is also the work of the air defense. Ukrainian media report that at least four missiles were shot down. Due to the threat of shelling, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions plunged into a preventive blackout.
The head of the Mykolayiv regional administration, Vitaliy Kim, stated that Ukrainian air defenses had shot down five missiles over the Black Sea. Also, according to him, Russian missiles flew in the direction of Sumy. Serhii Bratchuk, spokesman for the Odesa Region Military Administration reported the successful downing of a Russian missile over the Sumy Region by the Ukrainian military.
Radio Liberty’s Ukrainian Service reports on explosions in the Lviv Region; the BBC also confirms this information. Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that, according to preliminary data, Russia managed to hit facilities in the Slobodsky District. Kharkiv has also suspended the operation of its subway.
As of now, the Ukrainian side has reported the conclusion of Russia's missile strike and the end of the air alert.
