Ukraine launches large-scale attack on multiple Russian regions, Engels oil depot ablaze, fires reported at facilities in Saratov and Kazan

RU

More than 200 UAVs and other airborne targets were shot down over Russian territory on the night of Jan. 13-14, according to a report by the Telegram channel Shot, citing unnamed sources. The attack on Russia reportedly included drones such as the PD-2, Bobr, Lyutyi, UJ-22 models, as well as five ATACMS missiles.

Reports of explosions have been observed in the Saratov, Tambov, Rostov, Oryol, Tula, and Voronezh regions, as well as in Tatarstan.

According to a report by 164.ru, the drone attack sparked a fire at an oil depot in Engels, which had already been attacked on Jan. 8. That earlier attack caused a fire that burned for several days and was only extinguished on Jan. 13. The publication reported another fire at a different facility in Saratov near an oil refinery run by state-owned energy giant Rosneft. Issues with the city's water supply in Engels were also noted after the attack.

Regional governor Roman Busargin reported “damage to industrial enterprises” being observed in both Engels and Saratov — without naming the exact facilities affected. He also announced that students in the region would switch to remote learning starting from Jan. 14.

Authorities in Tatarstan reported the ignition of a gas tanker on the outskirts of Kazan. As was later clarified by local publication Business Online, the fire broke out at a cluster liquefied gas facility owned by Gazprom. Meanwhile, the Telegram channel Mash reported fires involving three tankers at the Orgsintez chemical plant.

Local authorities reported downing aerial targets across multiple Russian regions. According to these reports, 17 drones were shot down in the Oryol Region, 14 in Rostov, and 16 in Tula. In Tula, explosions were reported in the town of Aleksin near a chemical plant owned by the Rostec defense corporation, while in Tambov, explosions were heard near a gunpowder factory in the town of Kotovsk.

Ukraine’s National Security Council claimed responsibility for the strikes in Engels, Saratov, Kazan, Bryansk, and Tula. The targets reportedly included factories producing weapon components, along with refineries, oil depots, warehouses, and air defense systems.
