Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs makes false claim about Zelensky sporting “No God” tattoo

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a collage of two photos taken during a meeting of Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak with the Ukrainian military.

All of the images are unedited. However, the ministry circled Zelensky's hand on Sunak's shoulder in one photo, matching it to a close-up of the tattooed hand of the fighter hugging Sunak in the second photo. By doing so, the ministry passed off the serviceman’s hand as that of Zelensky. However, in the second photo (also included in the collage), Zelensky stands a few feet away from his companions, taking a picture of them.

The officer's hand features several tattoos, and one of them indeed reads “There's no God.” The Russian ministry offered extensive commentary on its misguiding collage, slamming the “unholy Kyiv regime” and accusing it of multitudinous crimes.

“Guys, that's not how hands work,” Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat, commented on the photo hoax.
