Russian Eurovision contestants make anti-war statement

Russian punk-pop-rave band Little Big, who were to represent Russia at the 2020 Eurovision contest in the Netherlands, have released a new video, Generation Cancellation, with a strong anti-war sentiment.

“War is not over. Stop war in Ukraine. Stop wars worldwide. No one deserves war,” the video caption reads.
“We love our country, but we are completely opposed to the war in Ukraine. Moreover, we are convinced that any war is unacceptable. We condemn the Russian government’s acts and are appalled with the Russian military propaganda machine to such an extent that we have decided to leave everything behind and leave the country,” stated frontman Ilya Prusikin.

The band also announced it is currently based in Los Angeles.

In 2020, the Little Big's song on the official Eurovision YouTube channel gained over 4 million views on the day of release, eventually attracting over 200 million viewers.

However, in March 2020, the contest organizers canceled the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, replacing with an online gig at which the musician presented acoustic versions of their songs.
